Emails I have pending I leave in my in box (Merlin Mann of 'inbox zero' fame would be horrified) and all emails I have dealt with, responded to etc, get archived locally on my Mac at work.

Of course I'm well known for responding quickly, so my inbox usually isn't that full.

Do you file them outside your email program?

I don't really understand the question, but you can certainly put sub folders under the "in" box online in exchange, Try it and see if you can otherwise elsewhere.

I can't tell you as I don't use subfolders other than on my local store of old emails at work....as I'm not a fan of a confusing in box and my experience has been that gradually people forget how much space they are using and then suddenly you find that you are over your space limit.

Well sync services in Entourage are a different area.

I can't give you a complete assurance, but I can't see why anything would be lost from the server, given that it's just Entourage's job to connect to the server and display what is there.

If you want to be overly cautious, you could ask for a backup to be taken of your profile on the server first.

I assume that anything I have on the server will not be effected?
I'm a bit shy of this, as I have lost stuff on the server before by what I've done on my mac when using sync services with ical.

Hi all

This may be basic for some, but ...
Do you put new email folders UNDER your inbox or outside it ... e.g.

Nigel
.Inbox
..waiting
..action
..reading
.Drafts
.Junk
etc

or

Nigel
.Inbox
.waiting
.action
.reading
.Drafts
.Junk
etc

Does it make a difference to Exchange server, or usability or sync'ing?

If I 'empty cache' on inbox with subfolders, will it effect all subfolders?

Cheers

I'd still have to disagree, because of deals that Adobe has done. Have a read of this page for more detail....

http://www.openscreenproject.org/about/faq.html

Note this one...

Will the embedded codecs in the Flash Player and Adobe AIR runtimes also be royalty free? Do they require a separate license?
Licensees and users of Flash Player and Adobe AIR do not need to obtain a separate license or pay codec royalties for the use of the codecs when included in Flash Player and AIR. Organizations that wish to employ the codecs for any use other than as part of Flash Player or AIR will need to obtain the appropriate codecs from their owners, and license them as necessary.

So use Flash Player or AIR and you're fine...do something different, then Adobe can't cover you...which makes sense.

Actually don't think Flash is as free as you think. It's still covered by any fees of the media it wraps. Flash uses H.264 so if the MPEG decided to charge a fee for the H.264 spec Flash would be wrapped up in this as well. Same with MP3, OGG Vorbis, OGG Theora, WMV or whatever other media format the content providers decided to wrap with Flash.

This is the thing people fail to recognise. It's not just a matter of saying "Flash isn't going to be affected by this" when in actual fact it is. If any format, especially the MPEG formats, get fees placed on them this will affect the content provider no matter which format they choose to distribute the content with. If the MPEG decided to charge a license fee for H.264 Flash would instantly be hit because it uses the H.264 specs in its format.<div class="feedflare">

Hi all

I'm running Entourage 2008 on Exchange server 2005, OS 10.6.2 on a Macbook

Yesterday around lunchtime my inbox stopped synchronising. :(
I can send email, and all subfolders sync as per normal.

OWA online has email messages that are not making their way into my entourage inbox.
Grrr

Can anyone help?

Don't really get you? There's no licensing fees for using or broadcasting in Flash...and that's what we're talking about. Where is the charge?

That's pretty standard though.

If you make content free you're often not charged to use the format but it makes sense that if you're going to charge for the content you should be charged to use the format.<div class="feedflare">

Thanks. It's interesting that around the time I first asked, the makers of the forum software on this site made some DNS changes that blocked some users around the world for a while. I suspect that with open DNS this kind of thing happening is lessened, but at this stage I'm not planning on using it.

When I first saw this I thought it was a service like DynDNS where you have a client running on your machine and that client forwards your current IP Address their servers. A service like this is good because it means you can run a website on your machine and even when your IP Address changes people will still be able to access your webpage.

But this service is really nothing more than a domain name look up service and doesn't really do anything past that. I'm not sure how much quicker it will make things but I guess if you're on dial-up where time counts a service like this will be good but on broadband seconds don't matter just data and the data required for a DNS lookup wouldn't be that great.<div class="feedflare">

Note that a number of websites are pointing out that this is only going to apply to video that is free to end users....

http://www.mpegla.com/main/Pages/Media.aspx

MPEG LA announced today that its AVC Patent Portfolio License will continue not to charge royalties for Internet Video that is free to end users (known as “Internet Broadcast AVC Video”) during the entire life of this License.

So not as open as first thought and still potential there for others to argue for different (and completely open) standards.

I would hazard a guess that Apple had a big hand in this and it makes a lot of sense.

High quality video with small file sizes are a must for the Internet and only H.264 currently does that.

What is going to be interesting is how this is going to affect Mozilla and Opera who were whinging and moaning about licensing fees affecting the OpenSource community and thus trying to push OGG Theora for the video tag. With the proliferation of H.264 hardware encoders as opposed to OGG Theora this will be an interesting turn of events.<div class="feedflare">

Very interesting turn of events....

http://www.macrumors.com/2010/08/26/mpeg-la-declares-h-264-standard-permanently-royalty-free/

MPEG LA, the group that oversees licensing for a number of Internet media standards, today announced that Internet broadcast content using the H.264 video coding standard will remain royalty-free for the entire life of the license, quashing fears that the standard could suddenly become subject to royalty payments in 2016 after the current licensing term expires and is required to be renewed.
